Job Search Smarts

This is an old video but it still applies today. I'm hearing from so many people who are disappointed with their job search. Have you taken a close look at what you're doing?

If you're sitting behind the computer shooting off application after application, there's a smarter way to do things. Listen in!

Networking, connecting, whatever you want to call it - it's SO important. 80% of jobs are filled through referrals. You don't need to have best friends in high places to get referred. You don't even need to be best friends with someone to get referred.

There are opportunities all around you to make meaningful connections that could lead to a referral. Watch this short video where I dive into this a bit more.

You may also want to think about narrowing your search versus inundating yourself with job listings that all sound the same on LinkedIn or Indeed. Come up with a list of organizations that you want to target (regardless of whether you know someone there or not!) even if there isn't a current opening that's a good match.

Then use LinkedIn to your advantage. Don’t just use it as a passive job search tool where you stick up your profile and wait. And wait. While great things can come from that, you can take an active role to build your network by reaching out to companies and people of interest – and you should. What most people struggle with is what kind of message to send. Here are some ideas!
