Are you getting interviews you want?

If you aren't getting interviews for the jobs you really want, your approach could be off.

Do you meet the majority of the listed qualifications? You may be overqualified for jobs you are applying to. Whatever your intentions are, employers may have unconscious bias and think you won’t take a lower salary. You need to address your intentional shift in a career summary or cover letter.

Are you talking to people or shooting off applications into the Internet black hole? There are many variables behind the scenes that you’ll never know about. You have to put yourself in front of people who are the decision makers. Leverage your network and LinkedIn’s search function to help you learn about the company culture or someone’s career path.

Are you looking at the right job titles? It is impossible to base your search on titles alone because they differ so much. Try several different versions of the same type of role and level to see if one works better than others, or if they each return good results. Check out LinkedIn profiles of people at those companies at the advertised job level so you can see how much experience they have and compare it to yours. That can also help you figure out the right level and title.
